Wrapped

If art is to “embed thought in to material” then the richness of Detlef Aderhold’s thinking is manifest in his small series of mixed media works which are titled Wrapped.

The Wrapped series takes his free-play of materials nearly to the edge of sculpture. Each work in this series takes a crumpled painting rag as its fulcrum. This is a fitting pivot point to a body of work by an artist who delights in experimenting with materials and processes. Each of these small assemblages contains aspects that are present in Aderhold’s larger works: talisman-like symbols, stains of pigment, energetic drawing and surprising color.
