IMMERSION

From April 1 – April 9, 2017

Ulrich Mädge, Lord Mayor of the Hanseatic Town of Lüneburg, will present a welcoming speech at the opening on Friday, 31 March 2017, at 6pm.

Abstract positions in art are not immediately accessible to all visitors. A curator’s tour, an artist talk and a public reading are intended to reduce insecurities in the face of the unknown and apparently incomprehensible and to enable additional perspectives.

Tour/gallery talk: Wednesday, 5 April 2017, at 11am, with Cora Althusmann (curator)
Individual works will be discussed in greater depth during the curator’s tour in order to help foster that immersion in the works and their artistic idiom sought by both artists.

Artist talk: Thursday, 6 April 2017, at 7pm, with Volker Kirchberg
During the artist talk, both artists’ positions regarding art’s influence on urban spaces will be explored in a discussion with Prof. Volker Kirchberg; links will also be established to his current research project: “Critical Art(ist)s and Urban Development – A collaborative study comparing German and Israeli Cities”.

Paintings & Poems: Sunday, 9 April 2017, at 11am, read by Isabel Arlt
In cooperation with the Literaturbüro Lüneburg e.V., a public reading by the actress Isabel Arlt will be held as a finale. By listening to poems that influenced a painting, the painting process or the artist, viewers will be enabled to perceive an additional level of the exhibited object. Alongside visual scrutiny, this recitation will help to familiarise listeners with the multifaceted complexity of individual works and to point out paradoxes to them. Here “poems” symbolise a part of the works’ process of creation and development, enable us to assess high and low points as well as happiness and pain and allow visitors to experience the dichotomy between artistic calculation and experimental openness, between concept and emotion, as means of generating images.
