“12 x 12” Artwork inspired by The LP Record Jacket

The Huntington Arts Council is proud to present 12 x 12 – A juried exhibition, Art work inspired by the LP Record Jacket, Beth Giacummo, Juror. Opening Reception Friday, May 4th, 2018, 6 – 8 pm. The exhibit runs from the opening through May 26, 2018 at the Main Street Gallery, 213 Main Street, Huntington, NY 11743. Free event, all are welcome to attend.
The Huntington Arts Council invited artists to participate in our 12 x 12 juried exhibition, art work inspired by the LP Record Jacket. Artist/curator Beth Giacummo is the juror. The Idea of the 12 inch LP has been a concurrent image in popular culture since the first one was pressed in 1903. The images on the cover grew from signage and marketing to works of art that represented the music and the culture in which both were and currently are being created. The album cover quickly emerged as a way to feature the work of talented artists. Its iconic format still maintains the visual representation for the auditory message enclosed within.

Beth Giacummo is an artist, curator and educator. She holds a BFA from the School of Visual Arts and a MFA in New Forms from Pratt Institute. Beth has exhibited her work extensively nationally and internationally; New York, Romania, Russia, Spain, Italy and Denmark. Beth’s professional experiences range from arts education to museum management. She currently serves as the Gallery Director for Farmingdale State College and is the Executive Director of the Patchogue Arts Council.

I’d like to thank all the artists who took the time to submit work for consideration, there was a fantastic response and it made the final decisions difficult. I’d also like to thank the HAC and Kieran Johnson for the invitation to be a guest juror, I enjoyed seeing so much new work. I look forward to meeting the artists at the reception and hearing more about their concepts and inspirations.” Giacummo said.
